Trading
Swap items directly with another player, face to face. Both sides confirm twice before anything moves.
You can trade directly with another player, without the auction house and without the 10% tax.
Starting a trade
Sneak and right-click the other player. Not one or the other - sneak and right-click.
They get a message in chat with clickable Accept and Deny buttons. If they accept, you both get a trade window.
| Request expires after | 60 seconds |
| You can send another request | 5 seconds later |
| Incoming requests held | 5 at once - the oldest is dropped |
| You must be within | 16 blocks of each other |
| Offer slots | 12 per side |
How the confirmation works
This is the part that catches people out, and it is deliberate.
Your items leave your inventory the moment you click them. They move into escrow - a holding area - not to the other player. If you change your mind, click your own side and you get them straight back.
The trade completes only when both players have clicked the green wool twice.
The first click only arms your side. It stays armed for 10 seconds, and then it disarms itself. If you click the second time after that window, it counts as a fresh first click - not a confirmation. There is no way to confirm by accident, and no way to confirm for someone else.
Nothing changes hands until both sides have confirmed twice. If the other player never clicks a second time, your items sit in escrow and come back to you when the window closes.
One thing to be careful about
Do not start a trade right before a server restart.
Escrow - the holding area your items move into - is kept in memory, not saved to disk. A normal server restart in the middle of a trade loses whatever was being offered. That design is deliberate: saving escrow and delivering it is exactly how item duplication bugs happen, so the safer of the two failures was chosen.
The trade window is short and the risk is small, but if you are moving something valuable, do it when the server is not about to restart.
If someone disconnects
The trade window closes and escrow is returned. Offline delivery also exists for items that were already committed, so an untimely disconnect does not usually cost anyone their items.
Commands
/trade (or /etrade) opens a trade with whoever you are looking at if you would rather not sneak-click.
