Mob Levels

Every hostile mob's level matches the region it spawns in - and that level is what makes it dangerous.

Look at any hostile mob in the survival world and you will see a level above its name:

[Lv 23] Zombie

That number is not decoration. A Lv 23 zombie has roughly five times the health and twice the damage of a vanilla one. The same zombie in a different region is a different fight.

Mobs match their region

Every region has a level band, and mobs spawning there are levelled to it. A zombie in Aurel Coast is around Lv 1-5; the same zombie in Mistvale Coast is around Lv 40-50.

RegionBand
Aurel Coast1-5
Verdant Plains5-10
Sunstorm Desert10-20
Evergreen Wilds15-25
Ashen Expanse20-30
Frostpeak Range30-40
Mistvale Coast40-50

The bands overlap on purpose. A Lv 12 mob in the desert is not out of place, and a Lv 20 mob can appear in either the desert or the Wilds - so the border between regions is a gradual change rather than a wall.

What a level actually changes

Every mob is scaled from its vanilla base stats:

StatFormulaA vanilla Zombie (20 HP)
Healthbase × (1 + 0.20 × (level − 1))Lv 5 → 36 HP · Lv 50 → 216 HP · Lv 100 → 416 HP
Damagebase × (1 + 0.05 × (level − 1))Lv 50 → about 3.5× vanilla
Armourbase × (1 + 0.02 × (level − 1))Lv 50 → about 2× vanilla

Health is the number that moves fastest - four times the rate of damage. A high-level mob is not primarily more painful, it is primarily longer. That is what makes fighting above your level tedious rather than lethal: you can usually survive it, you just cannot finish it.

What is not levelled

not affected by any of this.

are fixed, not scaled.

Why you can still fight them

Mob health scales at 20% a level; your damage scales faster. Your character level gives you +18% damage per level against mobs - see Classes - and your armour reduces incoming damage at 5% a level.

The two curves are deliberately matched. A player at the top of a region's band and a mob at the top of the same band are roughly even. A player five levels under is not.

The practical rule: fight in your band. A region's band tells you what character level it is built for. If a mob's level is more than a few above yours, the fight will be slow at best.

Sunlight

Mobs in the survival worlds do not burn in daylight. A zombie at noon is as dangerous as one at midnight, and the surface is not safe just because the sun is up.

The exception is the 128 blocks around spawn, where nothing hostile spawns at all.
