Town Defence

Kill 150 monsters anywhere, and a horde marches on the town. Everyone is called to defend it.

Elderian's town is attacked by a horde, and the trigger is the whole server's monster kills - not one player's.

The trigger

Every hostile mob killed by a player counts toward one shared server-wide counter. The progress is shown on a hologram in town, in front of the barrier.

At 150 kills, the horde marches. Everyone online gets a title and a message:

THE TOWN GROWS UNEASY
DEFEND THE TOWN - The horde marches on the portal! Use /spawn to return

The counter is not per-player. A quiet server still triggers it, and one player farming mobs can start an event for everybody. /spawn takes you to the town.

The event

The horde spawns and walks a fixed route toward the town portal. Five waves, and the town has 100 HP.

The horde does not attack you. It walks, and every monster that reaches the portal damages the town. The damage per monster grows with each wave - roughly 2 on the first wave and 10 on the last. Let enough through and the town falls.

Your job is to stop them before they arrive. A barrier wall across the route drops when the event starts and is put back when it ends, so the horde is funnelled the way it was designed to be.

If the town survives, it holds - and that is worth something.

Reputation

The town keeps a reputation score, shared by everyone.

Reputation is not a trophy. It changes what things cost:

The shop's buy prices are multiplied by 1 − reputation/100, clamped between half price and double price. Good reputation makes buying cheaper, down to −50%. Bad reputation makes it dearer, up to +100%.

Selling is never affected - you always get the same amount for your goods.

You can see the current standing at the quartermaster, on the "Town Standing" item.

The quartermaster

An NPC in town sells permanent upgrades and battle supplies. Right-click to open the menu.

UpgradeDoesCost
Repair the WallsRestores 20 town HP$7,500
Fortify+25 maximum town HP$10,000
Rally the DefendersHaste II for 5 minutes$5,000
Entangle the HordeSlowness II on every monster marching$6,000
Sharpen Your Blade+1 melee damage per level, up to 10from $20,000, rising per level

Sharpen Your Blade is the one that matters. It is permanent, it survives a town reset, and at level 10 it adds +10 melee damage to every hit you land during a defence. It is deliberately the most expensive thing on the list.

The other four are consumables - useful during a fight, gone afterwards.

Why bother defending

Three reasons:

  1. Reputation makes everything cheaper. A town at high reputation is a permanent discount on

every purchase you make.

  1. The quartermaster's upgrades are permanent. Sharpen in particular changes how the defence

goes.

  1. The horde is the only large-group fight on the server that everyone can join.

Nobody is required to defend. But the horde marches whether or not anyone shows up - and if it takes the town, the prices go up for everyone.
