Land & fair play
Land Claims
Protect your base with claim blocks. You earn them just by playing.
You can claim land so that nobody else can build, break or take anything inside it. Claims need no permission and cost no money - you earn claim blocks automatically.
Claiming
You need a golden shovel. Two tools do everything:
| Tool | Does |
|---|---|
| Golden shovel | Right-click two corners to claim that area |
| Stick | Right-click a block to see what it is - claimed, by whom, and how big |
Right-click one corner of the area you want, then the opposite corner. The claim is created if you have enough blocks. Right-click a claim you own with the shovel to resize it; shift-right-click to see its borders.
Claim blocks
Claim blocks are the currency of land. One block of land costs one claim block.
| To start with | 100 blocks |
| Earned | 100 per hour of play |
| Maximum | 80,000 blocks |
You are given 100 to begin with - enough for a 10×10 base - and then accrue 100 more for every hour you are online, up to a ceiling of 80,000. That is a square roughly 280 blocks on a side, which is far more than one player will ever fill.
Claim blocks are also sold in the coin shop: 100 blocks for 4 coins, up to 10,000 for 400 coins. That is the fast way to a large claim without waiting.
Minimum claim size is 5×5, or 100 blocks.
Trusting people
By default nobody can do anything in your claim. You grant access per person, and there are two levels:
- Build trust - they can place and break blocks.
- Access trust - they can use what is there.
Access is deliberately broader than most games. These all require trust:
| Action | Needs |
|---|---|
/sethome in a claim | Access trust |
| Trading with a villager | Access trust |
| Reading a lectern | Access trust |
| Throwing an ender pearl | Access trust |
| Triggering a raid | Build trust |
| Opening fence gates | Locked - anyone untrusted cannot |
Buttons and switches are protected too, and theft is on - nobody can take from your chests.
Claims expire if you vanish
Land is not held forever by an absent owner.
| Expires after | |
|---|---|
| A claim with only a chest in it | 7 days unused |
| Any other claim | 60 days inactive |
| Any claim, if you own 10,000+ blocks | Never |
So a small base you stop visiting will eventually be released for someone else. If you own a lot of land, your claims are kept indefinitely.
The Nether
Claims do not work in the Nether. Build there and it is unprotected.
