The world
Random Teleport
/rtp drops you somewhere in the wilderness, 500 to 24,000 blocks out.
/rtp picks a random spot in the overworld and teleports you there. It is how you get away from spawned-in territory and into somewhere nobody has touched.
Where it puts you
Between 500 and 24,000 blocks from where you are. The minimum matters more than the maximum: it will never drop you somewhere you could have walked to, so /rtp is always a genuine move rather than a shortcut.
Only the overworld is enabled. There is no random teleport to the Nether.
The countdown
After you pick a destination there is a 5-second countdown before you go.
Moving or taking damage cancels it. That is deliberate - it stops you from teleporting out of a fight you are losing.
Cooldowns
| Cooldown | |
|---|---|
| Default | 3 minutes |
| Rank 1 | 2 minutes |
| Rank 2 | 1 minute |
Higher ranks shorten it. /rtp opens a menu to choose a destination.
Where it will not put you
It will never land you in or on:
- Lava
- Fire and soul fire
- Cactus
- Magma blocks
- Campfires and soul campfires
- Water
It also refuses to spawn you in mid-air, so you will not arrive falling.
When to use it
/rtp is best for three things:
- Starting out - get away from spawn and find unclaimed land.
- Finding a region - keep jumping outward until you are in the band you want.
- Escaping a claimed-up area - when everything nearby belongs to someone.
For getting back, use a waypoint - /rtp is one-way, and you will not be able to find the same spot again.
